A 749 GW Renewable Energy Target is being Set by UNEZA, A Net Zero Alliance

Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA) members have announced a collaborative action plan that includes efforts to enhance grid infrastructure as well as an increase in renewable energy capacity to 749 GW by 2030.

According to a press release, the strategy calls for a 2.5-fold rise in 2023 volumes and presents an action plan that aims three main areas: de-risking supply chains, facilitating legislative and regulatory assistance, and mobilizing capital.

Today during the International Renewable Energy Agency's (IRENA) 14th Assembly, the UNEZA Roadmap to 2030 was presented.

UNEZA, which was introduced at COP28, intends to bring utilities and power corporations together to take the lead in creating grids that are prepared for renewable energy sources, encourage clean energy technologies, and progress electrification initiatives. The UN Climate Change High-Level Champions and IRENA are in charge of it.

Over 30 partners are part of the net zero utilities alliance, which is headed by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) in the UAE. The newest members of the community are ACWA Power and Green Grids Initiative. Among the founding members of UNEZA are DEWA, EDF, EDP, E.ON, Enel, Engie, Etihad Water and Electricity, Iberdrola, Jinko Power, Masdar, National Grid, Octopus Energy, RWE, and another.
